The utter hubris of a man who is the first to step on an escalator and decides he alone will restrain the flood of busy pedestrians behind him from WALKING up the escalator, as is their reckless and irresponsible wont.
He is their champion, he is their protector. He will defend them from all harm, even that which they are liable to cause themselves by doing anything on the escalator but standing perfectly still -- and even at the chilling cost of countless missed flights.
