rewatching muppets take manhattan and holy smokes what a gut punch of a film. lighting, dialogue — awe-inspiring to see this level of mastery of the craft
the on-screen chemistry, indeed, the raw sexual tension between K. T. Frog and a young Mrs. (then Miss) Piggy. you can see hints of their budding IRL romance, which at the time was a big secret for the obvious reasons, in quiet moments between scripted lines
obviously this film is a product of its time, you could never make a movie like this today. take the grit and intrinsic violence of a character as unhinged and shaken as Fozzy "Bear" — the talent currently in rotation would never be able to perform at this caliber.
I'm enraptured now as I was the first time watched it. the steady but certain unraveling of K. T. Frog in the first act, the immaculate "peoples is tomatoes" monologue, even the Kermie/Jenny/Piggy love triangle. my heart is caught in my chest, I'm still hanging on every word.
oh man I had forgotten about the big betrayal moment. I won't spoil it if you haven't seen this exquisitely agonizing film yet, but do yourself a favor and take the time. there's a reason this movie is 97% on rotten tomatoes.
